Theatre Ontario Festival 2012 Coming to Sault Ste. Marie this May!
An Invitation to all Theatre Lovers!
Live theatre provides an intimate forum where audience and performers share a space together to experience the life of the play. This dynamic relationship developed between performer and audience member makes live theatre an exciting and teeming abundance of possibilities. It is in these shared moments where a play’s life and purpose is realized. Our poster switches the usual vantage point from audience looking onto a stage that is typical for most festival displays and instead provides a look from the stage into the audience. This alternate vantage point was chosen to highlight this feature that separates theatre from most other art forms.
The four plays chosen as Outstanding Productions from the four regions in Ontario are more than ready to honour this special communion. We extend our invitation to you, the most important member of any theatre company, to come and participate in hope that those possibilities are a wonderful adventure indeed.
Theatre Ontario Festival 2012 is a special one indeed. It is the 40th anniversary of the festival and it is also hosted in a city celebrating its 100th. Given the synchronicity of these events, it is fitting that this year’s festival be a celebration of community theatre. The poster borrows from Sault Ste. Marie’s “Naturally Gifted” logo while playfully suggesting that no mode of entertainment is as immediate or impactful as live theatre.
“I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.” Oscar Wilde
